Miners Foundry, Grass Valley History Museum

During the California gold rush, men and women not only brought their own cultural heritage to Nevada County from around the world, but they also created a new heritage that was unique and distinctive to the gold rush era. Visit the various museums and cultural centers in Nevada County to get a glimpse of this unique period in California's history.

The Grass Valley Museum depicts the rich history of the Gold Rush days to 1930 with displays of furniture, art, objects d’art, clothing, musical instruments and artifacts of the Victorian era. The Museum also features a Victorian bedroom, a lace making exhibit, Lola Montez’s bathtub, and a hall of photographs from the turn of the century. You're in the Gold Country, so take a few minutes to see how life was lived here in the olden days. It's waiting for you …at the Grass Valley Museum located in the Saint Joseph's Cultural Center.

The Miners Foundry is the perfect historic location for your wedding, event, meeting or conference. In the mid-1800's, this building of native timber and stone served the needs of California gold miners. Today it is a one-of-a-kind event venue for groups large and small. Located in the heart of downtown Nevada City, California, Miners Foundry retains the character of gold rush days with its rough hewn beams, heavy metal doors, antique fixtures and furnishings.
